Reconstructed Spitfire
Our museum is in the possession of a reconstructed Spitfire with the code 3W-S. This aircraft is in a hall opposite the Fort building containing the main museum. In 2003 the Spitfire came to our museum and has been a centerpiece ever since, together with the exhibitions about the Air War. Visitors can visit this legendary aircraft in our Spitfire Hall.
Parts of a crashed Spitfire along with a lot of photo material and documents can be seen in the museum. Learn all about the Australian pilot John Carmichael who had to jump out of his Spitfire after his bombardment of a column of vehicles on the A4 because his plane suffered engine damage. He safely landed the ground and through help from the resistance he went into hiding in Leimuiden
