Reconstructed Spitfire

Our museum shows a reconstructed Spitfire with the code 3W-S. This aircraft is on exhibit in a hall opposite the Fort building. In 2003 the Spitfire came to our museum and has been a centerpiece ever since, together with the exhibitions about the Air War.

Parts of a crashed Spitfire along with a lot of photo material and documents can also be seen in the museum. Learn all about the Australian pilot John Carmichael who had to bail out of his Spitfire after his bombardment on a column of vehicles on the A4 highway, because his plane suffered engine damage. He safely landed on his parachute and went into hiding in Leimuiden with help from the Dutch resistance.
